Eggstreme Farming Farm Automation Guide: What Can (and Can't) Be Automated

The full automation ladder in Eggstreme Farming: egg collectors, the water refill machine, the level-50 incubator, crates — and the chores that stay manual, like sweeping and feeding.

Placing a water shelf with bottles beside a pen in Eggstreme Farming — part of the farm automation setup

Every player hits the same wall in the first week: too many pens, too much walking. Eggstreme Farming’s answer is a short shopping list of machines — and an honest set of limits about what stays manual. Here’s the whole automation picture.

The automation ladder, in purchase order

Each step removes a daily chore — water machine before collector, incubator last.
MachinePriceWhat it doesBuy when
Water Refill Machine$175Auto-tops the pen’s water container when lowFirst — missed water stalls laying today
Egg Collector$199Gathers pen eggs into slotted trays, works while you sleepSecond, one per pen
Egg Crate$3.50Haul and sell many full trays in one trip; consumed on saleWhenever you sell 4+ trays at once
Egg Box$3.50Stores full trays near the pensWhen pen-row clutter slows you down

Supporting furniture (food shelf, medicine shelf, egg shelf, water shelf) isn’t automation, but it’s the same goal: supplies staged where the work happens, so the market run happens once a day instead of five times.

The machine the game doesn’t sell: a morning routine

What machines can’t touch in the launch build — verified across launch footage:

  • Sweeping droppings. Every morning, every pen, broom only. Players looked for an automation for this constantly; there isn’t one.
  • Refilling feed. No feed machine exists. The food package shelf is the closest thing — bulk-buy and stage packages pen-side.
  • Selling trays. The vending machine run stays manual. Crates minimize the trips, not the trip.
  • Shopping. Every order is a market walk. Shelves + a habit of over-buying slightly is the meta.

So the realistic automated state is: machines handle water and collection; you handle a morning sweep, a feed top-up, and one sell run. That’s the loop at every scale — it just gets shorter per pen as machines accumulate.

The standard mid-game layout

Once two or more pens are producing, the layout that launch-week runs converged on:

  1. One water machine per pen, placed against the pen wall nearest the container.
  2. One collector per pen, arrow into the enclosure, loaded with 2–3 species-correct trays each evening.
  3. A golden tray parked in the pen row for hand-found goldens.
  4. Shelves clustered by the pens — feed, medicine and egg shelves together, so the daily round is a single loop: sweep → feed → swap trays → sell.
  5. Crates for the sell run — load everything full, one trip.

What automation is worth, in numbers

  • A water machine costs about a day of one pen’s income and repays it in saved laying hours the first week — an empty water container costs hours of production at six heads.
  • A collector costs about a day of income and repays it in walking time — more pens, faster repayment. At one pen it’s a comfort purchase; at three pens it’s mandatory.
  • At full brown-pen scale ($165–210/day/pen observed in launch footage), the entire automation kit for a pen ($375) pays for itself in roughly two days.

Endgame automation: the incubator

The level-50 Incubator is the automation ladder’s top rung and the game’s biggest open question — officially described as hatching eggs into new animals, which would close the loop on buying every animal from the market. What’s confirmed and what isn’t lives in the incubator guide.

Automation FAQ

Do machines need power or upkeep? No fuel, no repairs, no upkeep costs observed. You buy it, it works.

Can machines be moved? Yes — there’s a Move action; you don’t have to sell and rebuy a misplacement.

Do machines get stolen or broken by animals? No such event observed.

What’s the one machine I’d buy first with $175 and one pen? The water refill machine, without hesitation — it protects production immediately. The collector is the second purchase.
