Eggstreme Farming Egg Collector Guide: Setup, Placement and Limits

The Egg Collector is the moment Eggstreme Farming stops being a walking simulator. At $199 it’s the first big machine purchase, and setting it up right is the difference between “automation” and “a slower second job.”

What it is and what it costs

Price: $199 at the furniture tab — a serious purchase in the mid-game (about a day of income from a good pen).
Level-gated. In launch footage it became purchasable around the mid-teens. (Demo builds gated it behind level 50 — the requirement was lowered for release, so ignore demo-era advice on this.)

How to set it up

Buy it from Furniture — it arrives in a box like everything else; unpack near the target pen.
Mind the arrow. The machine has a direction arrow; it services the enclosure it faces. Placement and orientation are the “why isn’t it collecting?” answer more often than any bug — a player in launch footage stood puzzled until noticing the arrow mid-rotation.
Load compatible trays. The collector only gathers eggs into trays you’ve slotted into it — matching species, same as hand trays. No trays, no collection; it can’t hold loose eggs.
Give it two or three trays. That covered a full six-bird pen’s hourly output in launch footage.
There’s a Move action if you place it wrong — you don’t have to sell and rebuy.

What it does well

Works while you do everything else — other pens, market runs, sleeping. It keeps collecting through the night hours (nothing new lays overnight, but it clears the evening backlog while you sleep).
Handles golden eggs like any other egg. Your golden tray stays for hand-collection; the collector won’t sort goldens into it.
Signals clearly. A red light means a tray is full — walk over, swap in an empty, carry the full one to the sell machine.

What it doesn’t do (set expectations)

It’s not faster than you. Launch footage was blunt: “it’s a little slow, isn’t it? But it’s working.” A full pen lays faster than one collector gathers, so stragglers accumulate at peak hours — plan a hand-sweep at day’s end.
It doesn’t sell. Full trays still need hauling to the vending machine (or staging in an egg crate).
It doesn’t feed, water or sweep. The only other automatable chore is watering, via the water refill machine. Cleaning stays manual in the launch build.

Is one collector enough?

For a single pen at six birds: one collector catches most eggs but not all — expect a morning and evening hand-sweep of stragglers. The launch-week player’s verdict after a full day with one: “at least it’s doing part of my job for me.” As pens multiply, the standard layout became one collector per pen, placed between neighbors where the arrow can cover the busiest ground.

The purchase-order question

Collector ($199) vs water refill machine ($175) with one pen: water first — missed laying hours from an empty container cost more than your knees do. With two or more pens, collector per pen becomes the priority because walking distance is now your real bottleneck. The full ladder: farm automation.

Collector FAQ

My collector isn’t picking anything up. Three checks in order: is it facing the pen (arrow), does it have compatible trays loaded, and are the eggs actually in its enclosure — it won’t reach across fences.

Does it collect at night? It keeps working, but birds don’t lay at night — so overnight it’s clearing the evening backlog, not producing new income.

Can it fill the golden tray? No — goldens get gathered into ordinary trays like everything else; hand-sort them if you’re keeping a golden collection.

Can I have multiple collectors on one pen? Nothing observed prevents it, but trays are the real constraint — one well-loaded collector per pen is the norm.

Does it break or need repairs? No wear mechanic observed in the launch build.
