Eggstreme Farming Egg Trays & Crates: Sizes, Species and Prices

Trays are the game’s inventory pressure. Eggs are free money lying on the ground — until you have nowhere to put them. Everything about buying, filling and selling trays, in one place.

Tray sizes and when you get them

Rules the market enforces:

• Max 10 per order. The cart caps out; place a second order for more.
• Bigger trays unlock by level, not money — if the 30-slot is locked, that’s an XP problem. Go collect eggs and sweep pens.
• A full 30-tray at six birds takes about half a day to fill — six birds at ~18–24 eggs/hour blow through small trays fast, which is why the 30-slot unlock matters so much.

Trays are species-specific — the classic mistake

The trays tab sells chicken egg trays, duck egg trays, and (in the late rows) goose and turkey equivalents, plus the golden tray. A chicken tray can’t hold duck eggs — demo players discovered this mid-pen and had to re-buy the right kind (“I did not realize there were different duck trays”). The duck trays cost slightly more than chicken ones.

The habit that prevents the problem: before any tray order, count your egg types, not your pens. A white pen + brown pen + duck pen means three tray lines to keep stocked, even though the white and brown pens are both “chickens.”

Filling, carrying and selling

• You carry one tray at a time, filled or empty. Fill by walking eggs into the tray — each egg click slots in.
• Partial trays sell in the full release (the demo required full trays; that restriction is gone). Don’t sit on a half tray waiting for it to fill if you need the cash today.
• You can’t stack loose trays — floor space in the pen row is your staging area, and trays on the ground near each pen is the efficient layout.
• The vending machine pays per egg by size, so a “full” tray’s value depends on the size mix inside — the machine shows the breakdown before you confirm. Pricing details: egg sizes & prices.

The Egg Box and the Egg Crate ($3.50 each, different jobs)

• Egg Box — stores full egg trays for transport and sale. It’s a storage/staging item: park filled trays in a box near the pens so the pen row stays walkable.
• Egg Crate — lets you carry and sell many trays in one trip. Load full trays into the crate, haul the stack to the sell machine, confirm once.
• The crate is consumed on sale. Sell a crate stacked with full trays (~$157 observed) and the $3.50 crate goes with it. That’s a rounding error at 5+ trays and wasteful at 2. One launch-week player ran the numbers out loud and kept using crates anyway — at scale, they’re right.

How many trays do you actually need?

Ballpark from launch-week full pens: 5–7 large trays per day per producing pen. The practical rule: buy trays on every market run you can afford, keep a small buffer of each egg type you produce, and never let the buffer hit zero.

Tray FAQ

Do trays wear out or get lost? Trays are consumed when sold (they’re the packaging). Empty trays just sit where you leave them — but you can throw them in the trash by accident, so watch the throw key.

Can the Egg Collector use any tray? Compatible trays only — matching species, and it needs trays slotted in to work at all. Setup details: egg collector.
